Michelle Cox and Stephanie Newland, with the help of Thaddeus D. Matula, do an outstanding job of portraying the lives of the Spotlight Musical Theatre troupe as they write and perform their musical. Not only does this story reveal the development of a musical through the eyes of its stars, but they provide content from the homes of these individuals as well. We follow Christi, having just lost her husband, and get to first hand experience her heartwarming story as she channels her grief into art. Daniel, who draws us into the hardships and prejudices he has faced over the years, and watch him open up to the people around him. Andrea, a transwoman who has had to deal with the difficulties of not only having a disability, but working around obtaining her parents’ acceptance for who she is. These are just a couple of the incredible stories Michelle and Stephanie highlight in this feature.

The filmmakers on INTO THE SPOTLIGHT have done an incredible job of piecing together these incredibly talented individuals’ different stories into one overarching narrative, highlighting the troupe’s unity developed through both a shared tragedy and individual hardships. It is emphasised that these close-knit relationships are what make the final performance such a hit, and this personal flair is deeply moving.

By simply watching “Into the Spotlight,” audiences will find themselves flooded by the contagious resilience of the Spotlight Musical Theatre troupe.
