A review by Sonia McCloud

Writer and director Mike Doxford’s short film of parents worrying about telling their only child that they are going to have a baby sister or brother is well choreographed with the non-negotiable terms and conditions presented by their only child; the list pretty much ticks off every worry that parents have when faced with this lovely dilemma.

Jay, played by Samuel Anderson and Kat, played by Jill Winternitz are the epitome of everyday parents; jay looks at his daughter with big daddy eyes and Kat the level-headed mum who questions and reasons everything before answering. The daughter Deb, played by Izabella Dziewanska is the fairy tale child who knows absolutely what is right and what is wrong and that she has the answer to everything, I mean what could be simpler! The film leaves the viewer with a warm and wonderful feeling.

Beatriz Delgado Mena’s cinematography was close and cropped around the family and it captured that atmosphere akin to when people go into a coffee shop and they choose a place that they feel comfortable and private in, although all the customers can see everyone and possibly overhear them. That along with the general ambience of the coffee shop complemented the storyline very well.

This is a phenomenal film that I would definitely recommend seeing this year at Cleveland International Film Festival.
