Writer and director George C Siougas has turned a ‘ground hog day,’ existence in the life of a scrupulously meticulous musician into a truly, madly, wonderful adventure of true love with a sprinkling of comedy.

Narration by Ian McKellen gives the film the flavour of an old-fashioned fairy tale, prompting the viewer to snuggle into their couch, curl up and watch the magic unfold; replacing dialogue with tone is a courageous and brave step, however, the musical score delivers beautifully in all aspects and the viewer is able to follow every crotchet and quaver as if they were actually hearing the words.

The physical performance of all the actors balances the wordless script magnificently; the film is given a further boost with the inclusion of an additional story shown through two lovers sitting on a park bench, their love growing deeper each day as the one note man played by Jason Watkins cycles by.

An iconic moment was when a member of the audience woke up from their slumber realising that the musical ensemble was going off script and that, what was being played was truly magical; the conductor played by Crystal Yu feels the rhythm and being a true maestro encourages and takes part in the breakaway.

Director of Photography Matt North’s use of natural and theatre light is infused well and keeps the viewer’s mood merry and elated.

The film deserves a very strong five-star rating and a likelihood of nabbing the Oscar and BAFTA. Best of luck!
