OSCAR SPOTLIGHT: Oscar shortlisted The After directed by Misan Harriman – Life rarely follows the path that you want to be on

Creator Misan Harriman and writer John Julius Schwabach have excellent script that captures the winding road of life with its many short-lived moments of joy and happiness and the deep gorges of heartache and tragedy; through it all the journey carries on.

Leading star Dayo, played by David Oyelowo delivers a powerful performance, with an authenticity and realism that makes you believe that this is really happening, and now, having lived through joy, he must continue and walk the path stricken with grief.

The cinematography is very well done especially the random and at times outrageous conversations that a cabbie can listen into.

Francesco Le Metre’s music score line includes sentimental melodies, however the song Let It All Go by Birdy and Rhodes was the icing on the cake.

A powerful film that deals with deteriorating effects suffered from tragedy is very good viewing and deserves its Oscar short listing.
