Travis Andrade’s short film Wesley highlights the impact of pervasive gun culture on American boys

Travis Andrade’s Live-Action Short Wesley focuses on a young boy who gets influenced by gun culture. This topical film won Best International Short at Manchester Film Festival 2021 and Best US Short at Rosarito International Film Festival 2019. It was a finalist at the 2020 Vancouver Independent Film Festival and a semi-finalist at the 2020 Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival. Wesley will be screening at this year’s Beverly Hills Film Festival.

When a young boy encounters a troubled teen with a 3D-printed-gun the boy desires to possess one of his own. The film explores the impact of a pervasive gun culture on the developing psychology of an eleven-year-old boy.

Director/Writer/Producer Travis Andrade is an award winning filmmaker whose short films have screened at international film festivals in North America, Europe and Australia. Early on in his career, Travis shot and directed awarding winning branded content. Andrade’s music videos for the likes of Interscope and Virgin amassed tens of millions of hits and have been featured in numerous online publications. He directed a short documentary in Myanmar titled Children of the Peacock which was nominated for a Golden Frog at the 2013 Camerimage festival and currently has two feature films in development. 

Producer Jon Brewer is a prolific filmmaker with over 20 years of experience. Jon started as a camera assistant on multiple television movies for the Hallmark Channel. In 2012, Bewer directed the full ten-episode run of the enormously popular Epic Chef, also helped produce Vin Diesel’s web series for Fox The Ropesas well as acclaimed shorts for the hugely-successful YouTube channel Black Box TV. Moving into feature films, he associate produced the Fox thriller ETXR and the highly-anticipated adaptation of the Pulitzer-nominated Tao of Surfing. Jon just recently wrapped a feature in March 2021 entitled I Love Us, starring Katie Cassidy, Robert Davi, Jackie Cruz, David Elliot, and Danny Abeckesar.

Executive producer and editor Valeria Gualdi has worked on award winning films, commercials and documentaries that have been featured on ShowTime, HBO and in major festivals and publications. In early 2021, her recent commercial work aired during Super Bowl LV and the Grammys. 

Cinematographer Ryan Carmody has experience in television commercials, narrative and feature documentaries which have taken him to over 20 countries. He has shot with prolific directors such as Michael Bay and for a wide range of clients including Audi, McLaren, Google and Nike. His feature documentary Harmontown premiered at SXSW and his short film, The Sounds of Silence, received an honorable mention from the American Society of Cinematographers.

Wesley will be screening at the 2021 Beverly Hills Film Festival on April 28th – May 2nd, the 2021 Big Apple Film Festival on May 25th – May 27th and at the 2021 New Haven International Film Festival on May 12th – May 15th. It will also be showing at NewFilmmakers NY 2021 but the dates are to be announced.
